ReeToxA-INSATIABLE
This Melbourne-based rock band has only one thing on its mind. Rock. After their 2015 album Pines Salad, it is evident that fans were looking forward to more music from them. A perfect blend of old-school rock vibes is brought to a contemporary pedestal, and each song shows you that thrilling sound of live instruments. After more than 10 years, they release Soliloquy, bringing an epic collection of rock to experience. I chose INSATIABLE as the preferred single, for this is what makes you feel like the main character of your drive. With a sticky, spicy riff, the band begins their track and locks you into the groove. Like a classic Deep Purple number, there are harmonies and layers you’ll notice perhaps only by the second listen. The kind of track that makes you want to learn the instruments to be able to play it. A track that captures how their rock will always leave you insatiable:
Danny Django-Oh Me Oh My
All hail the songwriters' return, for Danny represents them the way they should be. Each songwriter has a specific narrative style that echoes their perspective. Danny introduces his new album The Peach Orchard Field with quite the contrast in album art. His choice of chords and vocal harmonies is interesting, almost resonating with Neil Young’s style from Buffalo Springfield. The crunch of the guitar tone stands out along with Danny’s vocals, and the percussion holds a steady beat. The solo plays a refreshing cut, almost like that complementary splash of lemonade to go with your steak. In almost this triple-album collection, Danny Django expresses moments through his acerbic lyrics, sharp wit and heartfelt songwriting. This is what songwriting is supposed to feel like, rough around the edges, and genuine:
Conor Maradona-SHINE
When I heard and reviewed SNOWBALL by Conor, I knew there was a class in this writing only he could capture. Balancing incredible melodies with equally engaging vocals and lyrics, he’s back with his latest single, SHINE. The rhythm starts slow, with his guitar shining through. Slide guitar is the spice to the tune in the beginning, with vocals taking an unorthodox path on the track. The musician from South Wales captures a whole other side of him in Rainbow Maniac, while fluttering pages from the diary of a serial ‘thought-haver’ is what he depicts in his solo journey. I love the kind of break his vocals show, especially before the guitar lick section. It sounds like an accented acoustic number, heightened in all the right places to represent an emotive journey:
