ReeToxA-Akaroa

A good track is like a souvenir of the place you heard it first at. "Akaroa" by ReeToxA is part of his new Double A Side 2, which is thematically a beautiful exploration of indie rock in the nighttime. I don’t know if this is what the band intended, but the track became my standard go-to when the wheels touched the freeway after the sun set. The guitar tone will remind you of a Tom Petty song, while the punchy percussion acts as a strong spine for what is a memorable and beautiful melody. The Melbourne/Naarm band is able to create a magnetic attraction back to rock that will have the kids picking up their guitars and rushing to the drums in no time. The way it blends perfectly into Erica and the Stars just shows how versatile ReeToxA’s sound is, and the journey it can take us on:

Shannon Hudson-Black Roses

Shannon Hudson is ready to give us that driving retro rock that made radio channels all of their money. "Black Roses" is the opening track (and a perfect selection) of his latest album, Cross Stitch. From the moment you hear the distorted guitar riff opening the song, you know that you'll have to change to a higher gear. The talented and expressive musician from Leander, Texas, has a natural swing and charm that transpires through the songs he makes. Switching from the acoustic to the very electric for an all-out record, this is where you can get to know the rock n roll spirit that can never sleep. The charge on the track is palpable, and you can't help but put it on loop as you barrel down the highway. Cross Stitch shows how Shannon Hudson can handle the axe with the aux and make some riveting music:  

Starboard to Sunset-Without You Here

This band from New Jersey deserves its own species of flowers for the kind of expressive indie rock they can make. Starboard to Sunset have a loyal fan base, and they're extremely prolific in making music that just speaks to the soul. "Without You Here" is one of their latest releases, along with "Never Enough". From the refreshing choice of tones and percussion, there is poetry in how they create their songs. The trio carry their own unique character in how their instruments blend into distinct parcels of the song, making a collage that becomes yours in some way. Wait till you reach the chorus; the kind of swell and rise you get there is priceless. It’s an incredible song to play if you just want to feel the presence of someone you miss next to you:
