The Daytime High-Beauty in the Sky
Remember the first time you listened to Firehouse or REO Speedwagon? The Daytime High have returned and bring refreshing rock, always. Beauty in the Sky is that gem that sparkles in the retro records and magnetically draws you back to those moments. From the tonality to the way the riff is spaced out, this is fit for the opening of a classic soaked opening of a movie like F1. From the harmonic melodies that bring themselves out with unique, layered emotions-the band are able to bring a certain nuance to their song. Do they sound like The Stones in the way they swerve through the chords and verse sections? They’ve found a sound that truly belongs to them, splattered in inspiration by the band that inspired them. Now they’re out to do the same for others:
Electric Fuchsia-I Felt Alive
Unlike any rock track opening I’ve heard, in over 10 years. Electric Fuchsia just added the palette of colour in my week, and I don’t know what I would have done without this song. The sitar rings out melodically, adding a whole new layer of texture to the melodies. When the vocals come in, there is an intertwined familiarity with how it's performed. Is there a psychedelic element to it that keeps you on your toes? There is depth, thought and deliberate action in how the melodies have been constructed. I Felt Alive is your defibrillator of a song, crafting that change with care while carving its own identity in around 4 minutes and change. Commendable variations will pull you into places you never dared to go, now you get to:
Oceans on Orion-Met My Match
Click play and tell me that the song doesn’t belong in this playlist? This is the way music is supposed to disrupt all expectations-while sound familiar enough that you remember it’s the kind of song you used to listen to. Met My Match is a fuel pod that catches fire with the right intensity. It has the warmth that you want to embrace for dear life, and the zeal that makes you want to have it around you forever. The layers are produced with explicit strength-from chugging to pummelling drums and energizing vocals; this is a song that will easily become one of Oceans of Orion’s greatest hits. All the elements of a favourite song that is reminiscent for its flavour, but also its brilliant shock value:
