This week's indie rock picks rejuvenate with songs from JR Wicker, Erick Duran Manard & The Paper Monsters

This week's rock picks make a flutter in the electro-rock spectrum with a great mixture from JR Wicker, Erick Duran Manard & The Paper Monsters. Check out the power packed songs here:

JR Wicker-Alien

JR Wicker crafts a spatial treat in another dimension with his latest single, Alien. This is a master musician, who is thinking in more planes than one. There is a retro charm that holds up the emotions of the song-distortions and unique aural elements making a cool compound you’re invested in. As much as the lyrics will draw you in, it is how he designs the background to become this aloof element of the so called alien. In the sounds and rhythms, there is a tale to be heard that is deeper than the song’s essence. From his album Weird Magic, he has taken a detour into a path of his characteristic sound, something that defines JR Wicker to be the musician he is:

Erick Duran Manard-A Road Without Any More Detours (Dawn Breaks Anew)

A Road Without Any More Detours became a rhyme for this playlist almost instantly. Opening with the ambient sound of a car starting and kicking into gear, there are radio aspects that take you back a few decades. The sound has that classic rock silken smoothness, and Erick Duran Manard is a storyteller, with quite a lot of layers to explore in his songs. The track is a reminder that live music, just beats with a pulse that cannot be recreated. It is a recording that is raw, full of little nicks that bring Erick’s eccentricities and attention to detail to light. If your road trip just began, welcome to the first single that puts it all in perspective, brilliantly:

The Paper Monsters-River on Omega

The Paper Monsters don’t need to give you a breather. Echoing percussions with brilliant melodic sheets come into their opening song of River on Omega. The vocals have an electronic, autotune like essence on them, while the aggression is immediately felt. It is the kind of riff you start humming because of how catchy it is. It is the quintessential rock sound, the booming drums, wall of guitars and road of rhythm taking you to the trip of a lifetime. It energizes you as much as it intrigues you, making a melody worth keeping on loop. Multi instrumentalist Reuben Start, bassist Nick Mathers, and keyboardist/cellist Lewis Fryer form this power packed band with a sound as unique as the river Omega. Watch the current:
