Tom O C Wilson enjoys a special relationship with melody. The moods he is able to create are surreal, with more than a dash of reality. It is the extensions of moments, what plays out in the metaphysical, that he is able to paint with his lyrics and simple melodies. Simple, for you and me. What goes on inside is more than complex machinery. This is his latest single with Henri Växby called Only Listening.
It is undeniable that Tom O C Wilson is able to visualise this music as some gift. The myriad of harmonies that go on with the simple theme are breathtaking to listen to. Soft percussions recede into the background, while instrumentals and his vocals share the limelight. The mastering has been done so well, that no singular element takes the top of the pyramid in the song. They are part of one large organic lifeform, churning out a melody that will etch itself in your psyche.
The clicking percussion at some point starts to morph into the feeling of time-which again melts away because of how the lyrics are delivered. I wish to have the ability to read a simple moment like Tom O C Wilson can. For now, I can only listen:
