Berkken – Happier Now
Experience the lucid joy of Berkken’s crisp, calm vocals and captivating instrumentals in one go. Berkken has always inspired, if not by the messages he writes, then by the melodies that carry you with unspoken solidarity. His latest single Happier Now transcends that moment of mild melancholy to understanding something far deeper. Like Father John Misty carrying a song with his vocals, Berkken keeps you glued to his narrative. There is a closure that comes through the lyrics, but a dwelling that lasts within the song itself. If you’ve heard A Better Man (incredible melodies that you’ll gravitate towards), you know how this musician is making movies with pages of his journal. Vulnerable, rich and music that is written to heal and help others heal the same way. A song to contemplate while the breeze gives you direction:
The Burton D'Agostini Procedure – Would YouÂ
While the retro still holds strong, Jeff Burton and John D'Agostini bring some refreshing music that transcends trends. From when they met in college and got obsessed with psychedelic and alt. rock, there’s been a certain chemistry the duo have developed in their music. Would You has an atmospheric incipience that allows you to drift into the music, rather than be presented with it. You become a part of the melodic experience – vocals blurred into the rich ambient background. When the percussion comes in, it gives structure rather than steal the aural setup the song has created. If you’re wearing headphones (and I hope for your own sake you do), you’ll hear layers converge and diverge organically as the song progresses. As Clown Drifts By is a rewarding and ambitious project, and I hope you get a rush while listening to it:
Andy Mclaughlan-If I Be Damned
We’re returning to an industrial, grunge-clung sound for this one. In his debut track, Andy Mclaughlan cracks a lot of codes but enjoys the composition he’s put out in every way. If I Be Damned has a gritty, metal-leaning sound with a percussion that wraps it tighter than a vacuum in space. The Scottish singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer obviously has an affinity towards visual presentation mediums, the way he allows space to construct the fabric of the song so well. He’s able to capture a lot of spatial volume in his song, and his inspirations come from mixed media. Vocals shine through with their raw approach, polished enough to create a cinematic vibe you will carry throughout and after the song. This is a beginning for something much bigger, you can bet on:
