Power through to the end of the month with music from Scarlet Mill, Sunstreets and Zegovia. Listen to the powerful numbers and follow for more!
Scarlet Mill-Pharisee
Let those trippy analogue loops carry you away. Scarlet Mill have always been known to experiment with their sound, and this time is no different. Pharisee explores a dreamy, incredibly textured landscape woven in with vocals. There are anchor chords that orient you with the progressions, as the vocals paint a vivid picture. Jennifer Moesker’s vocals float like a breeze over the loop, while the ambience begins to settle into your psyche. Scarlet Mill is more of a layered vision – from the album art to how the song evolves. While listening to it and driving, I was almost transported to this melodic highway, where a certain psychedelia dominates. I’d also recommend listening to Sad Affair and She Waits to continue the vibe and see Scarlet Mill’s genius:
Sunstreets-Northern Lights
Dopamine deserves to be delivered this way. Sunstreets bring a certain edge of that Southampton charm with their unique voicings and patterns. Northern Lights come as a motif in your life, encouraging a certain bright tonality in their compositions. Vocalist Lisa Turner has an uplifting spirit to her voice which turns the black and white into a vivid spectrum of colour. Sunstreets meld a lot of sound from The Cranberries into their own signature indie rock frequency. I loved the build into the chorus, a generous and rising part of the song that makes it a memorable sequence. You look forward to it, with the fun guitar lick you can sing along to. Even in the verse section, you’re dialled in to listen to the lyrics and the muted guitar strings trying to tell you a story. Northern Lights is quite a sight to listen to:
Zegovia-Above the Roof & In the Tree
The rock band from Houston, Texas, doesn't want to while away your time. You’re here for charged, inspired rock – and they’re definitely here to play. Above the Roof & In the Tree follows quite the punk tempo, and they show no signs of slowing down. The rhythm is unpredictable, following some unique jumps and slides. With the contrast of the heavier verse section, there are melodic, softer vocals that almost share a ballad-like quality. Pick Flies, Prefab – any song you want – and you know the band is following the organic nature of the jam into the composition. It feels great to hear music made by humans, as compared to the word ‘generated’. The guitar work on this one is a highlight for sure, with the drums and bass adding to this fantastic rhythm section. Bound to headbang:
