Thrilling indie rock for the week with music from The Sunday Shamans, Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard and Rosenthal. Listen to the powerful tune here with us!:
The Sunday Shamans - Where You Begin
Nothing can replace that feeling of live music. The Sunday Shamans are an indie project that ties on to the thread of psychedelia and launches itself into a whole new tangent. Their latest single is called Where You Begin, their first single of this year. Duality of rhythm tones is felt with not just the guitar but also the lead echoing far in the distance, almost leading us to certain nirvana. Vocals feel human and purposeful; they come from either inspiration or experience or a cocktail of both. The chorus has the dissonance between the vocals and guitar melodies, giving you that spacey, lost factor psychedelia manufactures so well. It becomes an anthem for being deep in thought. From the crisp percussions holding the spine of the album to echoing, well-crafted instrumentals – this is one track to look out for:
Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard – Travelin' Heart
This song didn’t ask to be on this playlist; it took its rightful place. Travelin’ Heart is to be seen as an anthem for all those souls with deeply ingrained wanderlust. Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard create the kind of melodies that feel like home but make you want to travel away from it. It’s homesick medicine, especially the gentle overlays of guitar parts on the percussion that you hear on this single. Suddenly, the tempo is stripped away, with Joseph’s honey-toasted vocals coming in with the kind of revelry you feel when the windscreen reveals a long, winding road. You get used to this unique tempo, grooving with emotive energy. It’s not the kind of alt country you’re supposed to listen to watching a reel on TikTok. This is the one you play when you set your phone down and actually decide to drive away:
Rosenthal-The Home Stretch
A return back to the place you call home is quite overwhelming. No matter the connotations you have personally with home, Rosenthal is able to craft a lucid mix that means more than you’d expect. From his album called Luna, The Home Stretch plays melodies in reverse, almost realising how a return is inevitable. The Danish musician lets his vocals echo in layers, the flood of emotions coming together to greet you at your own driveway. The lack of percussions allows each note to have its effect on you, as Rosenthal composes this dreamy, resonant number with great care. Ambiences are not just left to flow; here they bloom to keep a meditative space of symphonies. Rather than pepper the whole song with vocals, you’re left in a limbo of instrumental harmony to think and walk that home stretch:
