Spill the thrill for the long drive with rock music from 23 Fields, Mercy Kelly and Zachary Mason. Listen to the reveries here and follow them for more:
23 Fields-I’ll See You Soon
Real rock doesn’t need complicated routes to traverse. Perhaps a look back to some of your most fond memories should be enough. 23 Fields make emotional rock seem familiar and have that incredible Americana rock touch to their music. "I'll See You Soon" is a return to memory not just for Stepgen Adams but for anyone listening with even a tinge of nostalgia. The chord progression seems familiar. The visuals are striking and unique while creating a connection with your sense of self. The spotlight falls on the raspy vocals, while the steady beat is something you rely on. These are picturesque journeys we have the privilege of exploring through music and Stephen Adams and Co. ensure that personal touch is never lost. With pure songwriting and minimal drama turned over to the excess of production, this song is a lesson and a reminder – we'll see you soon:
Mercy Kelly-Shard of Rain
It's exciting to hear a new band break ground in the music scene. When Mercy Kelly released Speak Too Soon, the assumption of a hit single followed by mediocre tracks was always to come. All that is changed now as their new EP unveils their true talent and penchant for writing incredible songs. Called Summer of Silence, we’re getting obsessed with Shard of Rain, given the obsession for escapism through driving. From how the composition opens up to the detail in the tone chosen by the band, it is a tale worth observing from Marcy Kelly. The lack of percussion in the opening of the song turns all your focus on the mesmerising lyrics and the pure volume that they are able to create using just an instrument and rich ambiance. The galloping drum section snatches your attention almost instantaneously as the song builds to its natural expansive state. Feel the rain cut you:
Zachary Mason-Sweetheart (Radio Edit)
Stoner rock is coming to play. Zachary Mason is a young songwriter, but his songs respect the retro foundation that he follows. Sweetheart has the early sludge vibe of Kyuss and Josh Homme in the early years of Queens of the Stone Age. Rich, meaty chord progressions hit like a wall of sound as the bass lingers in the background, creating a resplendent cocktail. An instrumental delight. Zachary reminds you of the thrill live instruments can bring while maintaining that human touch of sitting and practising on the fretboard of your guitar for so many years. His vocals have an echo around them as we hear him singing far off in the distance. The stage depth for a song like this is very interesting, for it gives you the full frontal in the opening while building to amazing layers as the song progresses. A powerful song construct to explore:
