Incredible melodies meld into a mood with 3 in 1 indie pop this week featuring Charlie Freeman, Alex Starling & Mr. Coole. Listen to the riveting numbers here with us:
Charlie Freeman-Watchtower
The hat. The charm. The song name being Watchtower. We love Dylan, and we love Charlie Freeman. Inspired by the legendary musician, Charlie is able to bring back a technicolour vibe to his music with the kind of compositions he has. Using live instruments for that pop of energy, his songwriting is sharp and clever. Emotive and vulnerable, Watchtower has a heartbeat like pace that will melt your walls away. He drawls the lyrics, but it has a resounding connect with you that you can’t really explain. As a narrator, as a protagonist-he is able to perceive this music as an extension of his thoughts. A beautiful track, for your consideration:
Alex Starling-Maybe We Lost It
Like the soft tide of dawn washing upon your feet comes Alex Starling’s music. Having an incredible run with two projects previously, now his footprint can be recognised from miles away. A sonic delight, wrapped away in a time when compositions rung out with passion-that is what Alex can bring in with his music. Maybe We Lost It is that fading touch of mauve, a feeble thread that binds a once relishing story together. Chorus harmonics bring out his incredible range, while creating a rousing moment that reflects time. Like his famous song We Lie to Ourselves, this song is a reminder of the imperfections, a celebration and learning from those moments:
Mr. Coole-Trop Désolé
His vocals are beyond cool. It takes only a second into his song to realise you’re listening to a comet in motion. Mr. Coole brings his beautiful French lyrics with poetic perfection in Trop Désolé. Not only is he able to convey the theme through the barriers of language, but the melody holds the story. Using the gentle canvas of grey, he dives into his melancholy with purpose. To heal, to know and to grow. The Respira Mon Amour singer really crafts something from the ink of his heart in this piece. Trop Désolé translates to “too/very sorry” in French, and you’re left lingering in the ache of heartbreak as well. A brilliant song, executed to perfection:
