MaLoDy-Lost in My Own Skin
Welcome to your December earworm. MaLoDy has been able to bring a rhythm to emotion, and it's sweet as usual. With the previous release The Best Damn Christmas creating a nook for powerful storytelling, MaLoDy returns with another strong suit. This is how an anthem is supposed to be written. With a groovy verse, you enter a bridge that will take you to a whole other land. The mood builds the entire time, not because you know it's the chorus-but the way the groove grows on you. Incredible voice, commanding singing and an expressive lyrical gauntlet makes this song a must repeat. It has all the ingredients of a rock staple, and gives you so much more than you’d expect. Try out the citric appeal of this fun number:
Strutter-Modern Life
This band writes songs for their dreams, and lets us hear it. There is something about the way they approach compositions that don’t feel like structured elements at all. As epiphanies or moods, they know how to construct a certain cloud of curiosity and melodic harmony in all of their music. Modern Life is a part of that dream series, whether you choose the vocals or the simple chord progression-we’re experiencing peak thrill. If there are rock or blues licks coming in, they complement the arrangement that is making you fall in love with the song. The kind of tone they mastered for the guitars, or the floating ambiences, really take the cake. It’s the kind of theme that makes a movie work, a scene pop or an actor shine. Live this life:
Scott’s Tees-Cope
Perhaps this is a level of realism you’re not used to. Scott’s Tees can make music from a psychedelic dream, but they prefer to keep you tethered to the ground you should touch. A simple composition, Cope has an element of closing doors on escapism and understanding your relationship with these tangible elements. In a way, this song might unfold to become exactly that for you. The chorus is gorgeous, using harmonics with guitar depth to make a statement. Lacking percussion, there is an internal rhythm that accepts being part of the song as well. The distorted guitar with sweetened vocals plays quite the contrast, depicting a study into the things that might divide us internally. A splendid display of really speaking through music:
