Prem Byrne – Three Words

It’s always heartwarming to see a musician spill ink through a personal story. Prem Byrne has a strange grip on you through his music, and Three Words is no different. He opens the track with some gentle acoustic strumming, with lyrics like "My old man was a son of a bitch, but it really hit me like a tonne of bricks the day he passed away.” Simple percussive elements hint at the tempo, rather than dominating the track. The three words might be the ones we hold ourselves back from saying often before it's too late and you never get to say them. An honest, vulnerable and candid exploration through melodies, this is one of those ruminations from your bedroom that people resonate with from all over the world. It builds to an emotional tale, all revolving this complex dynamic between Prem and his father. Say those three words, often:

Soft as Hell – I'd Rather Fly

An organ's sound can always transport you to a place of mental solitude. Soft As Hell create an incredible contrast with their contemporary beats overlaid on what would give you goosebumps in church. The warm bass in the background gives that funky buzz this song needs, as the chord progressions are something you slowly soak in. I loved how the lead elements of the organ bled in eventually to give a rousing experience. Devoid of lyrical parallels, this story becomes yours. There are no personal experiences or tales about a protagonist. Soft As Hell makes the song about you, as dreamy guitar elements echo with the same aural frequency as a large chamber. When that section ends, you’re not prepared for what comes in next. Soft piano chords change the aesthetics of the song to a whole other moment. You asked for the sky. Soft as Hell offer wings:

Blade of Thorns – It's not my world

This is the raw, gritty sound you haven’t got in some time. Blade of Thorns isn't here to make you one with the mainstream rock/metal movement going on. They’re here to echo the issues and voices that plague humanity as a whole. Their song It’s not my world builds with great thrill. From the vocals to the fuzzy guitar tone, you’re treated to a whole other grid of industrial rock. Between sections, they draw in big leaps to create fantastic volume. The bridge to the chorus has an amazing swell, powering through with some powerful punches through a switch in time in the drums. From growls to aggressive guitar work, Blade of Thorns is clearly here to show their own prowess in composition, a sound that is truly theirs. Fire and Deep Waters solidifies their position as a rising force. Welcome to their world:
