PRIAPRISM-Hail to the Black King
We’re going to pivot to metal for a second, and we’re not sorry. Your stereo system deserves to employ this frequency. PRIAPRISM might have laid low all this time, but this is a throne of metal proportions made just for them. Rock Hard is their debut album's name, and it has songs that are going to make the mediocrity shiver off your semi-formal getup. From gruff vocals to riffs that surround the background and phasing elements, everything you want to get in an opening track is there in this one. Within 5 minutes, you get whatever a metal song promises you and more, including a driven tempo, crushing vocals, a memorable chorus and guitar parts that will sear through your veil of ennui. The Black King has arrived, and you’re expected to clear the way:
The NIGHTBIRDS-2000 Miles
I’m not saying much, but I definitely am implying that this band has an opening song that is PERFECT for my playlist. Art. is The NIGHTBIRDS’ latest album, and if the opening itself is so strong, what can I say about their whole album? 2000 Miles is a charged punk track with energy rawer than meat that has just been butchered. A chord progression that even The Ramones would want to lift, the band powers in with this song that feels like a sweet treat after a spicy meal. The recording sounds like tape as well, with every real and in-the-moment aspect captured extremely well. Art. is the way art should be consumed now in the post-AI era, to appreciate every little dink, dent and flaw that makes us make such art. Only someone messed up like me in the head would have written that previous sentence:
Prem Byrne-Love Is Blind
Who said you cannot carry a vibe with you? Prem Byrne is the representation of looking out at a sunset on a breezy day. All his music has a flow that imitates the organic flow of nature while being true to himself. Love Is Blind is a soothing number, accented by the bright acoustic guitar elements and soft percussions playing behind Prem’s vocals. Like a Sting song, the background carries an aesthetic of the place, while Prem Byrne gives us a narrative deeper and better than the last novel you read. His choice of chords is also brilliant; sudden shifts from the expected note will leave you with a smile. With his lens of love and appreciation for the small things in life, he is able to capture the purest of emotions with great detail. Love might be blind, but it's beautiful to hear:
